He was an industrious, physically strong, and easily scoring left midfielder. He rose through the ranks at second division club Verbroedering Geel, via Racing Genk to Anderlecht, where he was a key player in the team of Aimé Anthuenis during a fantastic Champions League campaign. He made his Red Devils debut a year before. His first of 13 goals for the national team was scored in the crazy match in The Netherlands which ended in a 5-5 draw.
